Austin, TX — In response to Planned Parenthood’s decision to withdraw from Title X funding after the Trump Administration imposed a “gag rule” on women’s healthcare providers, Democratic candidate in Texas’ 10th Congressional District Shannon Hutcheson issued the following statement:
“For decades, millions of women across America have relied onPlanned Parenthood as their primary healthcare provider. I’m one of them. As a young woman, I aged out of my father’s postal worker insurance and Planned Parenthood was there for me while I was juggling working part-time jobs and going to school.
“That’s one reason why I’m so proud to have represented PlannedParenthood of Greater Texas for almost a decade and why I’m deeply concerned about the Trump Administration’s repeated efforts to strip away access to healthcare.
“Here in Texas, we’ve seen firsthand what happens when Republicans succeed in their attacks on Planned Parenthood: within one year, dozens of clinics closed while effectively cutting off access to affordable healthcare for low-income women, resulting in a 27 percent increase in births by women covered by Medicaid. Texans deserve access to reproductive healthcare and that’s why I’m going to fight like hell for them in Congress.”
